Miniature Schnauzers are a popular and beloved breed known for their intelligence, affection, and playful personalities. However, as with any dog, it’s important to provide them with a healthy diet and treats that are nutritionally balanced and make up only 10% of their daily food intake. There are a wide variety of treat options available, from soft to crunchy, and from dental to joint care treats, as well as treat-dispensing toys that can provide interactive fun for both you and your dog.
When choosing treats for your Miniature Schnauzer, it’s important to look for options that are made with high-quality ingredients and are free from artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors. Some good options for Miniature Schnauzers include natural, single-ingredient treats like freeze-dried liver or chicken, as well as treats specifically formulated for dental health or joint support. Treats that are high in protein and low in fat can also help maintain a healthy weight and energy level in your dog.
It’s also important to consider your Miniature Schnauzer’s individual dietary needs and preferences. For example, if your dog has a sensitive stomach, you may want to avoid treats that are high in grains or artificial ingredients. Similarly, if your dog has a preference for a certain type of treat, such as chewy or crunchy, you can look for options that match your dog’s preferences.

Best Treats for Miniature Schnauzer – Buyer’s Guide
Dog Food and Treats Legal Regulation Remarks
Every pet food must consist of a complete and balanced combination of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and so much more to be able to suffice the needs of your Miniature Schnauzer. Furthermore, everything that our pets consume must be approved and validated by the Food and Drug Administration or (FDA). It must have a proper listing of all ingredients, percentage, and it’s guaranteed analysis. There must also be a guideline for the daily quantity of food intake recommended based on pet bodyweight and age. These are only some of the essential information needed in choosing the best treats for your Miniature Schnauzer.
What to Consider When Buying Healthy Dog Treats?
Treats can be anything from a portion of food in your dinner plate, homemade biscuits, or a treat bag retailed from a doggy bakery. But in today’s time and with the vast array of selection available in the market, we must make wise choices and check all the necessary factors contributing to a healthy dog treat perfect for you mini Schnauzer.
Tips for Choosing Treats:
- A little sugar makes the treat more desirable for your dogs. However, less sugar or no sugar is healthier and recommended by the vet. Because of the risk for cavities, weight gain, metabolic conditions, diabetes, and each condition, as mentioned earlier, comes tethered to a host of other issues like arthritis, painful oral infections, and heart complications.
- Grains in treats or dog food are proven to be the culprit for most dog allergies nowadays, so it’s best to choose grain-free snacks that will also help your pup get less flaky skin, a shinier coat, and whiter teeth.
- Based on some research, feeding a dog with higher amounts of protein can help dogs burn fat and calories and help facilitate weight loss. That’s why premium commercial dog foods typically include additional protein sources, such as fish meal, eggs, animal by-products, and plant-based proteins.
- There are many reasons people give their dog treats, from training rewards to something to keep them preoccupied. Still, no matter the cause and fun, treats can undermine your dog’s good health, mainly if it contains preservatives, coloring, and artificial fragrances. Hence, it is just important to follow the guidelines from your vet to keep your dog healthy and happy.
- Naturally-made snacks are considered highly enticing and have better nutritional values, especially when it’s made of premium meats, poultry, or fish. It may include pieces of dried meat from buffalo, beef, horse, rabbit, chicken, turkey, sheep, and select products wrapped with buffalo skin and poultry.
- All ingredients must be as fresh and minimally processed as possible, whole-food ingredients are better than by-products or food fractions. For instance, “wheat” is better than “wheat flour.” “Wheat flour” is better than “wheat bran and wheat germ.” The more highly processed and reconstituted an ingredient is, the more opportunities for contamination, and the more nutrients it loses.
- Dog treats and snacks, such as biscuits, should be made from natural ingredients generated from organic and quality production. We believe products produced naturally contain more necessary vitamins and minerals that your dog needs everyday.
Purpose
Dogs are open to all foods; however, you need to keep in mind that not all dog treats are created equal. Because the options are nearly limitless, you may be overwhelmed in picking the perfect dog treat. So if this sounds like you, you’ll be glad to know that we’ve made all of the comparisons to bring you the best of dog treats.
Calming Treats are made specifically for combatting repercussion behaviors and everyday stressors. Jerky treats are for dogs who need high protein and vitamins designed to boost their health and as well as their immunity. If your dog is into training, small and low-calorie ones will be perfect. There are also dog treats that provide dental benefits and others that serve as nutritional supplements.
Ingredients
We can assure you that no synthetic fillers and chemicals ingredients were used to produce these naturally, sustainably sourced, and safe treats we hand-selected and listed below. These treats bring the right amount of functional health benefits and flavor that your pet will surely love.
Texture
The texture is another important criteria for a dog’s enjoyment and to obtain additional benefits. As we all know, not all commercial pet food provides the texture that our dog might need. Because of this lack of variety of food textures, the treats may become unpleasant or unappetizing, which may cause the dog to ignore the food and miss all the fun and health benefits such as the abrasive texture of bones that can remove plaque from your dog’s teeth.
Taste
Dogs the same as humans, fancy everything full-flavored and satisfying. However, avoid artificial sweeteners or flavor enhancers in your dog’s treat, and go straight in rewarding your dog with healthy treats served in all-natural ingredients they need.
Size
The size is significant for providing the best snacks or treats for our dogs. It should always come to terms with your dog’s age and capacity to ensure that your dog will not choke with a bigger or with a smaller treat that is not suitable for a training day.
Now you know what perfect dog treats for every occasion. Your and your Miniature Schnauzer will definitely enjoy all the little times or the training hours with all the things you learned in this review.

Randy says
I understand high protein liver training treats are harmful to mini schnauzers. Is this correct?
Julia Powell says
Hi Randy,
You can’t give a pup as many treats as he wants, no matter they are liver or other high protein kind. Follow the instruction of the manufacture about daily quantity (based on the weight and age of the dog), then you are on the safe side.
Julia
Randy says
It would be great if that info was on any of the packages. Of course anyone would need to Exercise common sense when treating, however your comment did not answer my question about liver treats with a 67% protein content ( Crumps liver treats ) being safe for a toy Schnauzer breed or any Schnauzer breed . Please advise.
Thanks
Randy
Julia Powell says
Hello Randy,
We have not tested Crumps liver treats unfortunately, so they are not in our recommended list. Some dogs have health issues with high protein content in food, but this relates more to a certain dog, not to a definite breed. If you have even slightest doubts about your toy Schnauzer intolerance to protein high content in treats and food, we advise to consult your veterinarian about this issue.
Kindest regards,
Julia
