Incomes For Dog Walkers In The US Surpass $8,000 A Month After The Pandemic

Last Modified: February 26, 2023 by Julia Powell Leave a Comment

During the pandemic, more than 23 million families in the US got pets. Now people are going back to work in offices and dogs need to be walked. The ‘pandemic puppy’ situation has caused a boom in the market for pet ownership services.

Revenues for dog-walking services and private workers in the US have risen sharply amid a pandemic, the New York Times reports. The cost of a half-hour walk with a dog ranges from $14 to $35 or more, and workers earn more than $100,000 a year (more than $8,000 a month).

The market for pet ownership services in the US is growing rapidly as many people got dogs and cats during the coronavirus epidemic and now return to offices and have to hire helpers to walk and care for them.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, more than 23 million families in the US got a cat or dog during the COVID pandemic.

“Now many Americans are going back to the offices and someone has to walk all these ‘pandemic pups,” The New York Times writes.

Bethany Lane, founder of pet care service Whistle & Wag, says she is not coping well with rising demand. She says the company is getting dozens of new clients and last year’s revenues will be in the six figures.

“Before the pandemic, potential clients were calling me a couple of times a month,” says Bethany Lane. – “Now it’s a lot of calls a week. There are a lot of puppies.”

Parkside Pups project founder Michael Joseph quit his job as a teacher to develop training courses. He was just teaching his Labrador to run after my bike. And people started coming up and getting interested. Parkside Pups now charges $60 for an hour of dog training and for $65 you can leave your dog with Joseph for the day. Revenues for the project last year topped $100,000.

“I’ve never seen so many dogs in neighbourhood parks,” Michael Joseph stated.

The boom in the U.S. pet services market has led to an expansion in the range, with pet companies offering not only traditional walks but also park runs, trips to farms and “boot camps” for dogs, according to The New York Times.
