A Pekingese named Wild Thang, owned by Ann Lewis, has won the 2024 World’s Ugliest Dog contest in California. The event, which celebrates unique and imperfect dogs, awarded $5,000 to Wild Thang.

Wild Thang is an eight-year-old Pekingese dog who overcome canine distemper. This disease left him without teeth and a constant paddling motion in his right front leg. In spite of these challenges, he is described as happy and healthy.

Ann Lewis’s pet participated in the contest five times and previously secured second place three times. His health conditions turn him into an unusual but heartwarming sight with his tongue always out due to lacking teeth. Despite this, he is known for being full of life.

The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has occurred annually for nearly 50 years in California. It aims not to mock but to celebrate the dogs’ quirks that often go unrecognized. According to its website description, the event showcases “beautiful” qualities of characterful dogs.

This win represents a victory for all dogs with imperfections showing they can still lead joyful and fulfilling lives just like any other dog. Lewis and Wild Thang’s story highlights resilience and the unconditional love owners have towards their pets with special needs.
