Garmin Alpha 200i – With Safety in Focus

Hunting is a feeling of freedom, but there is always the risk that something will go wrong and that the accident will occur. How much do we talk about what must not happen and how prepared are we for the unthinkable? And now we have received a demonstration of Alpha 200i – Garmin’s new dog tracker which also contains an SOS function, something that can literally be the difference between life and death.

Recently, the Alpha 200i was released and we went to meet up with PR manager at Garmin, to get a first-hand demonstration. When we meet, we talked about a recently published survey on safety and hunting which shows what almost every fourth hunter is worried about during the hunt. Safety is something we do not talk so much about around the campfire, but something that we carry with us and that gnaws and burns beneath the surface.

The above-mentioned survey also shows that 44.6% of hunters claim that it is interesting to have a device containing SOS function, 66.3% say that it happens from time to time that they lose GSM coverage and as many as 21.9% say that it often happens when they hunt.

Garmin Alpha 200i – Simple Technology at a Glance

If you hunt in a forest, mountains or bushy areas like Chaparral Wma for example, it is nice with technology that can help if the accident occurs. With deep forests and a lot of height differences there is always a risk of falling or injuring. Experience hunters confirm it has happened more than once that you fell and injure yourself in the forest. You easily feel lonely and exposed unless the mobile is charged or has coverage.

With New Garmin’s Alpha 200i tracker and its built-in InReach technology now you can easily and smoothly alert in the event of an accident. You can feel much better with extra security that SOS button on Garmin’s Alpha 200i provides. It is a flexible and simple technical solution that works.

Pros and Cons of inReach Technology
Two-way messaging. Exchange text messages or be social media active, or communicate inReach to inReach in the field
SOS button. In case of emergency, push a SOS button (hidden under cover for protection against the accidental trigger) and send an alert to GEOS – a professional 24/7 global monitoring and response center
Global Iridium Satellite Network. Instead of relying on mobile coverage, now your messages, SOS alerts and tracking are transferred via the global Iridium satellite network
Share location. Track your location, and share it with your team in the field or family at home. This way you can ping your device for your GPS location etc.

What does New Garmin Dog Tracking System Contain?

The Alpha 200i has a large 3.5 ” touch screen and gives you the opportunity to adapt tracking functions in a simple way via buttons, which makes it easy to use the device while hunting. Via the touch screen, you can also configure specific hunting applications while displaying the relevant information needed to complete a task. Alpha 200i has quick access to your favorite pages, including a list of dogs and group handling,

With support for several global satellite navigation systems and improved map capabilities, the Alpha 200i makes it easier to always know the exact position during the hunt. The Alpha 200i receives signals from several satellite systems and thus provides better positioning compared to if only GPS had been used.

Garmin TopoActive Maps

Above all, the difference is noticeable in challenging terrain. The Alpha 200i has Preloaded Garmin TopoActive maps and BirdsEye satellite imagery can be transferred directly to the device. With the Alpha 200i connected to Wi-Fi, you can download BirdsEye satellite imagery directly to your device for a detailed view of your surroundings. Use topographic maps to get a more detailed overview of the landscape.

Extra Security

inReach. Alpha 200i provides extra security for the hunter who is far out in the woods or in areas with limited mobile coverage, as he can always communicate via inReach and its satellite technology. With a 100% global navigation satellite systems connection, text messages can be sent and received. It is also possible to navigate the route, register and share the hunt and, if necessary, send SOS for help from GEOS, a professional global monitoring and response center that is available.

Side Buttons. Garmin has also added buttons on the side of the device, which give you a better function when you use gloves, so now you have both a touch screen and buttons.

Hunting Groups. Hunting with several teams is now very easy with options to set up hunting groups, which means that you have full control over which dog you add to this hunting group and makes it easy to switch between them.
