Best Toys for Weimaraner Puppies

Puppies love to play. They discover their first skills and stuff that they enjoy. When buying puppy toys, please make sure that they are suitable for use with puppies. Thankfully, the manufacturers now offer toys that are specially designed for puppies. Since the teeth of young dogs are not yet so strong, the chewing toy is usually softer than conventional toys. Nevertheless, it must be robust, because puppies like to pull, tear and shake. Poor-quality toys usually survive for a few days only with an active puppy. We have selected for you a list of tested and durable toys.

Buyer’s Guide

Benefits of Playing with Weimaraner Using Toys

Our beloved pets should be kept in a nature-friendly way, but they should also be kept busy. Otherwise life will quickly become boring and for us pet owners at some point unbearable. Because even dogs that are not happy can be frustrated and they express this by their behavior towards humans. This means that the dog could start nibbling on furniture or shoes, destroy the apartment or do something similar to show: I am bored! I must be challenged! Therefore, dog toys are important accessories.

But they are not all the same and should be adapted to the needs of your dog. This starts with the size of the animal and ends with its very own character. In principle, however: The toy should be exciting and diverse for the dog. Pay attention to what needs your dog has or what instincts he likes to live out. Does he like retrieving objects or does he love to chew on something? Does he like to tug or swim? Playing is also important for dogs because it strengthens their bond with you as their owner, trains their physical and muscular abilities and helps them to understand their environment and rules better. While playing you can, for example, practice commands and educate the dog at the same time. In this way you can divert any misbehavior of your four-legged friend to the desired behavior.

Important Features to Look For in Dog Toys for Weimaraner

This part of our review and guide is intended to cover all the important characteristics of dog toys that you should be aware of. Among other things, it is about the right material, application possibilities and size. Because, as it was already mentioned, not every dog toy is the same. Just as every dog is individual and has different needs. It depends on these needs and circumstances, but also on the character traits of the pet.

Material and Durability

With dog toys it is very important what material they are made of. There are several reasons:

  • Durability of material is important. Puppies in particular should not have too rigid dog toys, as their teeth can break. The best are yielding, medium hard materials, which are however durable.  Also, the product should not break directly when the dog bites hard. Natural materials that do not contain any harmful or toxic substances are the best. After all, the toy inevitably comes into contact with your pet’s mouth. Especially plastic parts often contain softeners. They are quickly released from the toy and can even lead to digestion disorders. Natural rubber, for example, is proven to be very good and not dangerous for health.
  • There are often toxic materials and ingredients that do more harm to the dog than fun. Especially paints, softeners and bleaching agents that can be harmful to health or even poisonous. It is not without reason that these additives are now even banned in children’s toys. The difference between a child and a dog is not so big, as pets also like to put their toys in their mouths.
  • Plush dog toys are often not only too unstable, but also dangerous. Dogs can swallow parts of the plush, cotton wool filling or artificial small parts such as eyes and noses. This can lead to vomiting or even stomach and intestinal obstructions or injuries in the gastrointestinal tract. The same applies to many ropes or pulling toys where threads can become loose and be swallowed. Use such toys under your supervision.
  • Toys with textile coatings are also not recommended. The coatings can damage the teeth or can also be swallowed.
  • With synthetic materials pay attention to the ingredients. Plastic is often very hygienic and easy to clean, but it can also contain substances that are harmful. These are softeners. But plastic can also split quickly and cause internal and external injuries.
  • Then there are toys made of wood. These are very popular and in general wood is a natural material. And dogs also like to chew their beloved sticks. Pay attention: no hardwood, a smooth, and splinter-free surface coloring made of natural ingredients.
  • Nice alternatives to materials are natural rubber and natural latex. These toys are often more expensive, but the health and well-being of the pet should be a priority.

Safe Design and Fittings

  • Dangerous small parts are taboo. They may come loose during the play and a dog can swallow them. But also seams and badly glued joints are often harmful to the animal. Material, processing and compatibility go hand in hand here.
  • Treat dispensing toys should be suitable for various snacks.
  • Intelligence toys should be with a good fastening option like non-slip surface for example. The toys should also be chew-resistant and as durable as possible. After all, neither you nor your dog will benefit if the toy breaks directly after the first bite.
  • Ropes are particularly practical for throwing toys. You can throw the toy better and farther and it is also somehow more pleasant than picking up the dirty ball in your hand.

Size and Weight

The size of the toy always depends on the size of your dog. If the toy is too big, he may not be able to carry it properly and often not use it effectively. If the toy is too small, however, it can be dangerous because it could be swallowed or broken directly. So when choosing a toy, it’s best to look at your dog’s muzzle. He should be able to carry the toy in his mouth without it disappearing completely. The jaws should not be overloaded. The weight is also important. Throwing toys in particular should not be too light and not too heavy, so that they can be thrown well or fly far.

Cleaning

Taking into consideration active games of Weimaraner you should also think before buying a toy how you are going to wash it, if we are speaking of outdoor toys or treat dispensing toys. The material should also be easy to clean. That means: dishwasher-safe materials or materials that can be washed easily and effectively under water.
