Bathing is essential part of any dog’s hygiene, and therefore finding the best shampoo for Miniature Schnauzer is highly important. Especially, if your pup lives in the city and the cleanliness of the environment is questionable. Washing helps to get rid of dirt and parasites, enriches coat and skin with oxygen and reduces mats and knots. By bathing your dog, you provide impeccable care for the whole family.
We usually choose shampoo, soap, cleansing milk and other cosmetics to match our hair and skin type. Similarly, depending on the breed, we must choose the type of cosmetics to be used. If you wash your dog with a shampoo that doesn’t match his hair type and then apply a poor conditioner, the end result is not what you would like.
Miniature Schnauzer is a double coated dog with harsh and coarse top coat and soft undercoat. It is highly important to hydrate his hair and skin, but to keep the top coat naturally textured and not to make it soft, as for other breeds. You can reach this with dog shampoos for coarse hair. Special conditioning is also important.
Miniature Schnauzer has different lengths of coat on body – short hair, and long hair on face, legs and stomach, which leads to different care instruments. The three main colors of Mini: Black, White and Pepper and Salt, also need special treatment. And let’s not forget about after-hand-stripping treatment if irritation or bumps appear. All this develops to a variety of shampoos and waterless sprays to be used for Schnauzers, among which you have to choose.

Schnauzers should have a hard as wire hair. Of course, after washing and drying their coat should remain as coarse and hard as possible. For Miniature Schnauzer you should use textured shampoo. This shampoo for frequent washing contains very low pH. It can be used daily. How to use: the shampoo can be used directly from the bottle, but it is better to dilute it with water. Wet the animal with warm water, apply a little shampoo on its coat, soap it up. Gently massage the skin and coat to remove all dirt. Wash it off well. Soap a second time and rinse thoroughly.
Conditioners are used immediately after shampooing and also when brushing your dog. We only use conditioners on areas with long hair (paws, skirt, chest, beard) to increase volume and make combing easier. Very dry coat requires a conditioner with a high content of emulsifiers (fat). Fat, enveloping the hair, forms a protective film that retains moisture, restores the original structure of the cut hairs, restoring its elasticity and facilitates care.
Taking care of a miniature schnauzer cannot do without regular bathing procedures. But there’s a nice bonus here, too. Although it is recommended to bathe your dog once a week, there is no need to wash the whole dog or even wet him. It is quite enough to wash the dog’s paws, chest, throat and beard with shampoo, i.e. those parts of the body that are not trimmed, so the coat is not so hard and gets dirty more often than on the body.
“And when do I have to wash the whole dog?” – Exceptionally when it’s necessary. For example, if the dog got dirty on a walk or fell out of something. But remember, if that’s the case, your dog’s hair won’t dry quickly and you’ll probably have to use a hair dryer.
After bathing the miniature schnauzer it is not necessarily required to dry him with a hair dryer. It is enough to wrap it in a towel for 5-10 minutes, and then the hair can dry naturally. However, until it is completely dry, your pet should not walk or stay in a cold room.
Drying is a process that requires gentle care, especially for hard coat breeds. No need to rub and shag your dog or make circular movements against his coat. Gently soak him in the horizontal and vertical direction of his coat growth. If we make a circular movements, the coat twists and breaks when we brush. And if the coat is thin (sometimes on the paws, beard), it also tangles. Do you need extra knots?
Dry your puppy’s coat with a hair dryer immediately after bathing and brush him with a special brush for Schnauzer. Be careful not to scare your puppy with the devices. Do this until your dog is fully grown up. In the cold season, a hair dryer after bathing is essential for drying your dog’s coat and adult dogs as well. Make sure the airflow of the hair dryer is not hot as this causes static stress on the coat.
There are a few simple rules to follow to keep your dog to smell good in between baths: maintain your dog necessary oral care; provide health food; brush out dirt and dust regularly; use waterless shampoos or spays to clean the coat and to kill unwanted odor
Be ready that your little inquisitive Miniature Schnauzer will have a wet and dirty beard every time after eating or walking. But there is a wonderful Foaming Facial Wash Spray you can find on the list above. Use it every time you feel washing with warm water does not help
Absolutely. Whitening shampoos reduce all yellow from your Mini, keep him shine bright and crisp. Just make sure to choose the one with all natural ingredients, rich in oils and vitamins.
All shampoos making dog's coat soft are not suitable for Miniature Schnauzer. Their coarse hair requires special shampoos for such coat type. They hydrate the skin and fur, but keep the texture harsh
